The first of the clubs annual fundraising events has rolled around again. On the nights of the 7thand 8th of October we require volunteers to provide security to the annual vintage car club gathering at McLean's Island. We usually do two shifts, 6.00pm to 12.00am and 12.00am until 6.00am. Yes you miss some sleep but you help line the coffers of the club with cash. We are asking now for volunteers to step up and help. You do get shelter and the toasted sandwiches are pretty good! Please let Rohan or Benny know if you can help. These events are pretty important to us now, its hard to ask funders to give us money for a new club if we are not prepared to help ourselves.

This is a reminder that the 2016 AGM will be held this Sunday (31st July), 2.00pm at the South Brighton Surf Club. The 2016 annual report and accounts will be made available tonight via email. As a special treat, light finger food will be served at the conclusion of the AGM.
In other exciting news, the club will also be presenting the concept plans that Sheppard and Rout have developed for our new building. This is a big step forward for the club as we look to build for the future!
Well the old athletes of South Brighton have spoken and we have heard you. Yes, the club will be charging full steam into the 2017 Masters competition and we are encouraging all ex competitors to roll the arms over, stretch out the hammies, arch the back and get along to wear the mighty gold cap once more. Under the SPORT section of the website, there is now a form to sign up to the Master 2017 newsletter so we ask anyone with a passing interest in showing up to register their interest! At this stage we hope to make a occasion of this with some other "social" events organised, other than just a flap around in the New Brighton sea. What could be better than competing in the warm waters of New Brighton at the end of March, as a gentle offshore wind holds up the peeling 3ft surf?
The South Brighton Surf Club and Te Waka Aroha South Brighton are having a social event for the good people of the local area as well as club members on Friday night the 1st of July, 7.00pm. Contact Rohan (rohanmcn@hotmail.com) for tickets if you wish to go along.
The South Brighton Surf Life Saving Clubs 2016 Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday the 31st of July 2016 at South Brighton Surf Life Saving Club (Corner of Bridge Street and Marine Parade) at 2.00pm. A formal notification will be inbound shortly and the clubs 2015/2016 annual accounts and the 2016 Annual Report will be circulated before the meeting. However, put what is sure to be the social event of July in your calendar now.

The club wishes to inform members that yesterday Paul Worthington, father of Adam, Jimmy and Tom passed away. Paul was a good club man who served tirelessly for years on the committee in a variety of roles and as a beach manager. If Paul told you to do something on the beach, you generally didn't need to be told twice to get on with it. However the editors lasting memory of Paul will be a vision of him standing on the beach trying to control Tiny the dog. Anyone who saw them at a carnival will remember that battle of wills.
The clubs sends it condolances and thoughts to Adam, Jimmy and Tom on behalf of members past and present.
The Nipper program for the 2015/2016 season is on the countdown to the seasons end. The last session for Nippers will be the 20th of March 2016. We look forward to seeing all Nippers there to farewell what has been a great season in style. The BBQ will be running etc. so book it in the calendar now.
Speaking of Nippers, congratulations to all the Nippers that competed in last weekends Nipper SRC champs. The club managed to finish forth behind Sumner, Waimari and St Clair. its a considerable improvement on last season 9th and its just reward for an increased focus on our U14 squad. Well done to all that competed and a special "big ups" to coach Jimmy Feathers for his hard work and perseverance with that U14's this season.
This weekend the Southern Regional Champs were held at New Brighton. Congratulations to our clubs competitors who took out the top club in the South Island, edging out St Clair from Dunedin and local club Sumner. It was a big effort from all competitors so well done to all that donned the yellow cap. Its onwards to Nationals now for some of the team, whilst for others that's it for the competitive season. Also thanks to the old timers patrol who covered watching the swimmers back at South Brighton on what was a very hot weekend weather wise.
A big thanks to the Christchurch Casino for a substantial donation that will go towards helping the club deliver the services it does to keep the beach safe and provide the programs we do for the members. If your looking for a fun night out, get up to the casino and have a meal and a flutter. Naturally we recommend all members only indulge in safe gambling etc. but feel free to support the people that support us.
