Dear members, this is notification that the much awaited event on the calendar of all clubbies, the 2018 AGM will be held on the 28th of July, 5.00pm. Venue will be the South Brighton Surf Club (corner of Marine Parade and Bridge Street). Come along, have you say then wash it down with a coke and a burger from our good friends at the Burger Van.
WE NEED YOU! Call out to all those interested in life guarding for the 2017 -18 Summer. All competitive racing members are required to do at least 20 hours. However the call out also goes out to nipper parents / Rookie lifeguards / New lifeguards / members in general / anyone that can spare some time in the weekends during the summer.
NOT a lifeguard? support people are also welcome. This is our core service to the community and an expected obligation as a South Brighton SLSC member.
As we look to kick off the new season, the club will be having a social function on October the 7th, 6.00am onwards at the club house to kick start summer. All members are welcome, please bring a plate of food if you can. Parents, kids, uncles, aunties, cousins...everyone is welcome.
The Junior surf program will be commencing this season on October the 15th, 10.00am with a registration day at the club house (corner of Marine Parade and Bridge Street). This will be a chance to order togs, high vis vests, pay subs and get registered. Beach sessions will commence on the 29th of October, 9.15am at the beach. The club welcomes all new comers as well as returning members and we look forward to seeing you all there!
Dear members, there will be a service for Flash Peters this Friday, 2.00pm at the Surf Club (corner of Bridge Street and Marine Parade). At the conclusion of the service Flash's ashes will spread in the ocean at the beach he loved so much (weather dependant). We encourage all members to come along and give Flash the send off he deserves.
Its with regret that the club wishes to inform its members that our club patron and life member, Flash Peters passed away this morning. Flash has been a part of the clubs landscape for what seems forever. Even though Leon was not well in recent months, he still showed up when he could to take his place behind the bar dispensing refreshments. We are not sure when Flash joined the club, but best guess seems to be the 60's and since then he always been around helping or doing what needed to be done. Flash was a good club man who will be missed by everyone.
Dear members, some great news today. The club was granted resource consent by the Christchurch City Council to rebuild our club house. Given the complexities of building in the earthquake zone, the tsunami area, the 200 year flood plain and the beach environment, this is great news. Big thanks to Nigel Cox (good club man), Matt Gutsell (the architect supreme) and Johno from PLANZ for getting this over the line!
Once more we ask, if you have no filled out a letter of support for the rebuild of the clubhouse, please do so. The more letters we get, the better our case for funding is.
Following the seasons AGM, the club facilities will be opened for a social catch up. Part of this is the Burger Joint caravan (usually out the front) has offered to cater for the night. This should be a good night so all members are welcome to come along and have a coke and a burger. Please check the menu here and then mail Rohan (email@example.com) telling him what you fancy to eat. We ask members do this so that Caroline the burger lady knows what she is in for! That's Saturday the 29th of July, 6.00pm start.

As part of the clubs rebuild plans, we are collecting letters of support from club members, local residents and generally anyone who thinks this will be great for the South Brighton area. At the bottom of the rebuild page is a email form we are asking supporters to fill out and submit. All you do is enter your name, address (we need this for verification), copy the provided text into the message box (you don't even have to think) and boom! Submit.
We ask all members to spread the word and lets get the support rolling in! Lastly, we hate spam as much as you so be assured your details will not sold, shared, lent out or anything like that.
